Once the iron waste has reached its melting point the raw materials for cobalt chromium, nickel, tungsten and sulfur are added. After 40-60min of high-temperature treatment, temperature drops to 1150-1200degC. Temperatures then drop to 880-970degC, where it is possible to age the mixture for 2-3 hours. The casting and non-vacuum melting of early cobalt chromium -tungsten alloys was used. The vacuum smelting of boron or zirconium is used for later-developed alloys such as the MAR-509 alloy.

Generally, cobalt-chromium-tungsten alloy lacks a uniform strengthening phase. Its strength at low temperatures (only 50-75% compared to nickel-based alloy) is high. However, it also has good thermal fatigue resistance. It can be used for making nozzle guidevanes and guides vanes of aircraft jet engines, industrial gas turbines and naval gas turbines.
