Iridium (III) is a fairly rare element. It can be found in a variety of alloys, but is best known for its striking colors. It has a reputation for being a good conductor in certain situations. For example, it does not react with any acid. However, it will do so in the presence of a molten salt. This makes it ideal for applications like the manufacturing of titanium dioxide, or a host of other chemicals.

The most common application for iridium is in metallurgy, where it is used in the production of titanium alloys. Other notable uses include in semiconductors and in the manufacture of ceramics and optical components. In particular, its use as a catalyst is a key component in the production of a variety of chemically inert compounds such as boron and lithium.
